|Namrata Dutt, Sanjay Dutt
Veteran star Sanjay Dutt’s life was documented on screen in Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju. In the film, Ranbir Kapoor stepped into the shoes of Dutt and took us on the debatable actor’s journey. But, numerous criticized that the movie was made for whitewashing Dutt’s image in front of the public eye.
Ram Gopal Varma, who has worked with Sanjay in two movies, was glad about the film but was also saddened by the fact that Sanjay’s involvement in the 1993 Mumbai blasts was not dealt with in depth.
When a daily spoke to Sanjay’s sister Namrata Dutt about Varma’s film, she lashed out at RGV and questioned, “Doesn’t Varma need Sanjay’s approval to make it? If Sanjay gives a go-ahead, we are nobody to say no to him.”
“His (Ram Gopal Varma) stories are dark. Why do you want to go on and on about Sanjay’s life? Why is he putting us through so much pain again?” Namrata specified.
Speaking further about Sanju and how painful it was to watch and relive the memories, Namrata revealed, “We have been through every phase of what Sanjay has gone through. When he became a drug addict, we at least knew that we couple help him out by sending him to rehab. But we had no control over the other incident (going to jail). It was painful and as we helplessly watched him suffer.”
